Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I need a physical exam to play sports?
Yes, you need to have a physical form on file in the Athletic Department before you can try out for a sport. Physical forms are available in the Athletic Department.

2. Can I still play with my club team during the High School year?
Yes you can, but there are some restrictions placed on all high school athletes by the California Interscholastic Federation. First, you may not play on a club team in a particular sport during that sports high school season. (For example, you cannot play club soccer once the high school soccer season starts.)

3. When do the sports seasons start?
TBA, pending final approval from the San Diego Section of the California Interscholastic Federation. Please contact the Athletic Department if you have questions about specific sports. All Sport start dates will be posted on the school website by June.

4. Are their "cuts" for teams at the High School level?
Most teams at Horizon Christian Academy conduct tryouts for the purpose of selecting the members of athletic teams. At the conclusion of the tryouts, there are often athletes that cannot be offered a spot on a particular team. Cutting athletes on a particular team is difficult for coaches, families, and athletes. Parents and athletes are encouraged to talk with coaches about the tryout process for a particular sport.

5. How big is the Horizon Christian Academy Athletic Department?
Horizon Christian Academy offers competition in 10 different High School sports with 19 different teams.

6. Are athletes encouraged to play more than one sport?
The Department of Athletics encourages all athletes to be as involved as their schedule allows, and, yes, we encourage athletes to play on as many sports as they can. Our coaches are willing to meet with athletes that are interested in playing two or three sports and help an athlete plan his/her time effectively so that he/she can maximize his/her high school athletic experience. You can only play one sport per season (Fall, Winter, and Spring).

7. What does it cost to play on a team?
Horizon Christian Academy has an athletic participation fee of $150 per sport. This fee helps to offset the cost(s) of the athletics program.  This one-time fee covers an athlete’s participation in the Athletic Program for that sport.

A $100 Spirit Pack fee is required once a student is placed on a team roster. This would include equipment that the athlete needs to practice or game items that the school does not purchase. Examples would  include hats, shorts, shirts, and socks.
